httpd (13) Permission denied: access to / denied

Question

My question is "How do I get my httpd to work?"

Whenever I try to access my http server, I get an access denied 403 message. The message described on the subject is got on the logfile:

/var/log/httpd/error_log

Let me post the output of certain things first.

My httpd.conf first. (the default one served via yum)

Permissions in the DocumentRoot (/var/www/html) and it's parent directory seems to be fine.

The / directory did not have +x privileges.

so whats the problem....? are you just concerned you are getting:

httpd: Could not reliably determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using 127.0.0.1 for ServerName

just add an enry in your httpd.conf that reads Servername your.fqdn.com. you can find this by running "hostname" from the command line. if you get "localhost" back, you need set a hostname / domainname on the box to properly work as a node on the internet,.
