I used:

./configure --prefix=/usr/local/nginx  --with-poll_module

And every time I do a restart I get this:

nginx: [warn] 2048 worker_connections exceed open file resource limit: 1024
nginx: configuration file /usr/local/nginx/conf/nginx.conf test is successful

You compiled nginx correctly. But there is a problem with this line:

user=`$nginx -V 2>&1 | grep "configure arguments:" | sed 's/[^*]*--user=\([^ ]*\).*/\1/g' -`

Let it once run like this and see that error message you get:

user=`/usr/local/nginx/sbin/nginx -V 2>&1 | grep "configure arguments:" | sed 's/[^*]*--user=\([^ ]*\).*/\1/g' -`

Maybe you have to run just a part of it to see where exactly the problem is.

Using that script for start nginx, You should create nginx user before compiling nginx.

# useradd -s/sbin/nologin -d/usr/local/nginx -M nginx

then

./configure --user=nginx --group=nginx --prefix=/usr/local/nginx  --with-poll_module && make && make install

finally you edit the script '/etc/init.d/nginx' for your server env and execute

/etc/init.d/nginx start

thanks.
