and nothing about dovecot in mail.log or mail.err

when I run this service dovecot start I got

  • Maybe a problem with SElinux ? try set it up on permissive mode.

The error you're getting when you start Dovecot means you don't have permission. Check and see if Dovecot is running (ps-Af) -- probably not.

Start Dovecot from user root, or sudo it.
