I have configured dovecot and postfix...Email server works fine.. (Webmail and outlook both works..) I have created users using unix command ..

usreadd -s /sbin/nologin myuser

But i have a concern, if i want to login to webmail or outlook I have to use myuser instead of [email protected].

For the time being im using, only user name as below.. enter image description here

If i use [email protected] it says its invalid user both webmail and outlook..

I tried googling .. no luck.. yet.. kindly some one please shed a light..

10-master.conf is

#default_client_limit = 1000

# intended to catch and kill processes that leak memory before they eat up
# everything.

# user in Dovecot system. It shouldn't have access to anything at all.

    I would consider it an advantage to login with the username alone - the full form is usually only used when you want to server more than one mail domain with different userbases per domain.

all what i had to do was edit 10-auth.conf and uncomment auth_username_format and add %n.. That fixed my issue..

auth_username_format = %n

  • If you use this option only real system user can to connect but virtual users cannot. Any idea?

    Note too that by extract only the user part from the email things like myuser@anything would work too. Jan 27, 2018 at 21:04
  • @PolHallen years late :) but it seems a more recent feature allows conditionals to take care of a mixture of system and virtual users. See this answer: serverfault.com/a/1062274/980378 in the same referenced solution.
