Don't know if anyone has any experience with this, but I need to change the default network of 192.168.1.1 to something else so when I VPN into my work I can still browse the internet.

Before when I had cable I could just change the default gateway easily enough inside my Linksys router config utility to anything I wanted, i.e. 140.16.0.1 or whatever...

When I try to do it with the ActionTec router Verizon gave me for Fios, I can change the network and all my devices that are on WiFi will connect to the new network and be fine, but it seems the two cable boxes will not connect, they will still search for the default 192.168.1.1. Anyone know how to make them connect to my new defined network/gateway? Thanks.

I think I'm confused. You used to change the default gateway of your router, or you used to change the LAN IP block? Have you considered talking to the sysadmin of the network you're VPNing into? – Matt Simmons Jan 13 '10 at 3:57
Are the cabled boxes set to get the IP address and DNS server via DHCP, or are they set explicitly? – Jess Jan 13 '10 at 4:28

a Network Layer diagram (IP address layer) diagram and a Data Link Layer diagram (physical Ethernet jack to physical Ethernet jack) would help explain what you are trying to do. – pcapademic Jan 16 '10 at 4:51
