We're looking into getting netbooks for some of our users, but of course we're looking for XP Pro rather than XP Home so we can join them to the active directory domain. As I shop around all I can find are references to an HP 5101 that only shows XP Home on their web site and a mythical Acer model that I can't find anywhere. Do I really have to buy the OS separately? Has anyone else purchased netbooks with XP Pro pre-installed, and if so where and what kind?

I think you are going to continue to have issues finding a netbook with XpPro on it. Your best bet would be to just purchase a retail XpPro upgrade. They are not meant to be business class machines, and aren't marketed as such, hence the consumer OS.

HP's Mini 5102 (Clicky for link) can be downgraded from Windows 7 to XP Professional

Win7 Pro is fine, too. The key thing is "Pro". But I'd prefer something that's available today. – Joel Coel Jan 13 '10 at 22:00
