I just install Windows Server 2008 r2 in my MacBook. I would like to install an anvi virus but since this is for my personal freelance usage, I do not have enough budget for it. Is there any free anti virus for Windows Server 2008 out there??

Actually what is ForeFront use for?? It is an anti virus product??

Questions on Server Fault are expected to generally relate to servers, networking, or desktop infrastructure, within the scope defined in the faq.

AVG doesn't work on Server software unless you PAY for it.

You should add this as a comment to the answer that mentions AVG, on its own it makes no sense. – Sam Jan 28 '10 at 10:46

We use ClamAV on our Windows 2008 (and 2003) servers without any issues. We've only just started to roll out R2 and have been using Kaspersky on them so can't say for certain that ClamAV is compatible with R2 - but I would think it is.

That is what I use. Works well on R2. Only disadvantage: does not do real time scanning... Have to do it manually. Still very good for my use. – skinp Oct 13 '10 at 12:46

Noted, i removed that part already. I am currently using MS Security Essential 2.0 Beta x64 on my testing laptop with Windows 2008 R2 64bits and it works great. So no hacks needed for that. – Muhammad Oct 13 '10 at 13:26

You can use ClamAV for Windows or AVG Free.

ForeFront is more like a patch management system, you can read more at http://www.microsoft.com/forefront/en/us/default.aspx

Firstly, AVG is not free for Server OS's. Secondly you really ought to read articles you quote, Forefront is not a patch management system, that would be WSUS, Forefront is Microsoft Security Suite, which includes AV. – Sam Jan 28 '10 at 10:49
