As of today download of (static) PDF-files from our site stopped working in IE 8 and IE 7 from several computers. This seems to apply to most PDF-files on the internet as well. (I did a Google search for "download whitepaper pdf" and tried to download a bunch of them.) It works great in Chrome and when using Fiddler2 to eavesdrop on what's being sent I see that the file is transferred. It seems like there's some sort of filter that got triggered today, any ideas?

Server: Windows 2008 Server with IIS 7

Client: I replicated this on Windows 7 With IE 8

did you change any settings with regards to your IE browser not-caching? (e.g. turned off caching) IE loads PDFs and similar from the cache. (this is also a superuser.com question IMHO) – scunliffe Feb 8 '10 at 12:00
No I haven't changed any settings. This is NOT a question for superuser.com since this applies to several computers not running the same version of anything, there is nothing wrong with MY computer per se, but with IE in general and since download of generated PDF-files works I'm totally sure this can be fixed on the server-side. – svinto Feb 8 '10 at 12:11
What do you mean with 'downloads stopped working'? Do you get a 404 error? Is this only internally to your network, or have other outside users experienced the same problem? – tomlog Feb 8 '10 at 13:46
@tomlog: This occurs on more than one server and client at different locations, both localhost and across internet. Though if localhost is added to the intranetlist it works. – svinto Feb 8 '10 at 14:22
@tomlog: I mean that it used to be possible to open PDF-files with IE. On this computer I get Server not found, on other computers it's just loading without anything happening. – svinto Feb 8 '10 at 14:24
