I think its a silly question but still here it goes..

Actually, I followed this tutorial to setup the PacketiX VPN on ubuntu. Now, how do I actually use this VPN?

As told in tutorial, if I do

route del default
route add default dev vpn_0

I am not able to surf the internet. And I get the route command output as:

root@shadyabhi-desktop:/home/shadyabhi# route

I know I am not able to route the traffic properly. How do i do that?

you skipped step 7 on that guide.

As Justin said,

you don't have an IP address for vpn_0 so packets don't know where to go to get to and from your network.

It seems you missed the step

dhclient vpn_0

which should have come back with an address if all is working.
