I would like to build a silent PC. What desktop (mid-tower) case do you recommend? What case do you recommend to stay away?

One of the biggest causes of noise in a PC case is going to be through vibration, so you'll want to look for the cases that feature some type of vibration reducing features (such as rubber inserts next to the PSU and hard drive mounts). | |||

Having considered the Antec P182 I settled with a SilverStone Fortress (FT-01). It's pretty quiet and has some seriously good cooling. Rereading your question.... maybe it's a bit too big to fall under the 'mid-tower' cases. | |||
