Now that Core 2008 R2 added .net support, I wonder if it's possible to run SharePoint 2010 Web Frontends on it?

Found some articles saying you can't run it on 2008 Core (no ASP.net support), but haven't found anything about R2 Core.

According to the SharePoint product team, the answer is no.

Given that Sharepoint 2010 won't be released for a couple more months, the documentation that is available isn't complete. I've yet to see a single thing about core either way but given the extensive requirements, I'd bet against it.

+1 - I also think it is unlikely. Too many cross requirements. I would be positively suprised, though ;) – TomTom Mar 30 '10 at 4:41

However, we just proved that you can install the WIF components manually for our product, which relies on WIF. I suspect you could install the components manually to support SharePoint 2010 as well.
