how to install php

We need more information; - On which OS - What have you tried yourself? – Rhapsody Apr 6 '10 at 5:59
It would probably be best to open a much more detailed question on SO's sister-site ServerFault.com of the form: I am trying to install PHP 5.3.2 on Debian 5.0.4 i386. It will be used with Apache 2 as a webserver and must be built with MySQL libraries. The system has no X Server installed, and so all interactions must be through the command line. Please advise the best possible route to do this. – David Antaramian Apr 6 '10 at 6:06

It's difficult to tell what is being asked here. This question is ambiguous, vague, incomplete, overly broad, or rhetorical and cannot be reasonably answered in its current form. See the FAQ for guidance on how to improve it.

On Linux at least, it's already installed.

Try putting a file called index.php in /var/www/ and then go to http://127.0.0.1 to see if it worked

That's not always true. In fact, most distros I work with don't install it by default. (Gentoo and Debian, especially) – David Antaramian Apr 6 '10 at 6:01
