This is only about networks you have seen personaly, not heared from others or seen on pictures at the web.

  • Cables hanging from the ceiling lamps?
  • Cables going trough culverts and other tubes?
  • Switches and other equipment in the cleaner's closet?
  • Cleaning lady's rags drying hanging from the cables?
  • Key to the main node door possesed only by the janitor (or other non-tech and completely non-network-related guy)?
  • Switches powered by foreign power adapters (cheaper and providing non-specified voltage or amperage)?

All of this was in my old dormitory. Tell us about your bad experience.

This should be a Community Wiki. – Massimo Apr 9 '10 at 6:56
@Massimo: Is there a Community Wiki? I can't see a link anywhere on that site... – Ivan Petrushev Apr 9 '10 at 9:18

Questions on Server Fault are expected to generally relate to servers, networking, or desktop infrastructure, within the scope defined in the faq.

I've seen a datacentre that used to flood regularly. Management decided it was too difficult to re-build the facility, so they ran all power overhead instead and put a drain underneath the floor.

The dehumidifiers get a workout whenever it rains, but I suppose the water would augment the cold, dry under-floor air conditioning as the air becomes saturated: underfloor swamp/evap cooler, who'da thunk it.
