WikiLeaks/ThePirateBay-style. Ideally something with PVS's or rentable dedicated hardware (and a track record -- no HavenCo's). Colocation would be doable as well. Sweden, Iceland...?

Iceland is looking good right now that IMMI has passed. It depends what exactly you're looking for. You probably want your servers in a country other than the one you live/operate in - it adds legal difficulties to anybody wanting to take your servers down. I'm not a lawyer though, so I don't know how well that stacks up these days, but it's something we've been defaulting to for years and I'm not about to stop now. It's not perfect, and if for example you're American and have an American hosting company operating in Britain then it's less likely to work. As for specific providers, then you probably want to be hosting with somebody you know. Or at least is known by somebody you know. You can get away with an awful lot more if you're hiring rack space from a guy you know rather than a hosting company looking to protect their interests. On a small scale we've used Nearly Free Speech a few years ago, Gandi get good reviews and there's a number of activist-friendly datacentres around Europe and America ranging from squatted buildings with lots of ADSL connections to proper datacentres in Amsterdam and Norway. | |||
