I administer half a dozen servers with (among other things) Webmin. I connect to Webmin via ssh tunnel to port 10000. All of my Webmins run in https mode.

Firefox from version 3.6.6. refuses to load my https://localhost:10000 pages claiming

SSL received a record that exceeded the maximum permissible length.

(Error code: ssl_error_rx_record_too_long)

Why is this problem NOW? It was working fine (annoying with certificate errors, but working) but now it is not working at all. I must have Google Chrome installed so I can connect to Webin.

Did older versions of Firefox work? – Andrew Jun 30 '10 at 7:28

According to: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/forum/1/494643#threadId551286 you can Solve it by going to "about:config", searching for "services.addons.mozilla.org", and deleting "services." from that string (leaving addons.mozilla.org/blahblah/).

Although, in my version of FF (3.6.6), that setting wasn't there... and webmin works

My FF also doesn't have that setting. My webmin also works if I connect to it via regular webmin port (10000 or any other). – vnuk Jul 1 '10 at 12:43
I actually started getting that message one of our remote routers.. simply refreshing fixed it. – Grizly Jul 6 '10 at 23:31
