The company which I just joined needs a strong Digital Asset Management, for around 150 Gb of JPG, 55 GB of AVI and if possible 125 GB of PSD files. The tool could be web-based, open source, and offers a good tagging / category option - I guess that's the main idea behind a DAM anyway :) I installed a Ubuntu test server with EnterMedia, ResourceSpace and Phraseanet. Some looks promising but before going any further, I'd like to get some opinions. We also looked at ACDSee Pro which can centrally stores a database with the tagging facility, but that doesn't sound like the best tool to me...

Oh, and with the quantity of files to add, it'd be really nice to have a good import option !

Ideally the web server should be different from the server where the files are stored. On this server, the directories should not be modified and no thumbnail should be saved (this should be done on the webserver). – Jonathan Jul 7 '10 at 7:49

Too small ! I'm looking for a really complete solution which looks more like a software, not an external website. I don't think Gallery would handle so many photos and so many formats... – Jonathan Jul 6 '10 at 13:56
We were using it for .psd files (around 50MB each) and about 500-600GB of data without problems. – Pier Jul 6 '10 at 14:16

I have installed it and it's looking nice so far. However, I have a doubt about the logic - does Gallery2 create duplicate of all the images ? What I would like is to have the webserver running on a different server from where the files are located... – Jonathan Jul 7 '10 at 7:37
You have to import photos into gallery. He's saving them in an storage dir and save all infos in the db. It shouldn't be a problem to store file somewhere else, on condition that the space is mounted (via nfs, smb) on the server where the web server is running. Maybe they changed something about this in Gallery3 (rc right now). – Pier Jul 7 '10 at 7:55
