I'm looking for a virtual appliance that supports all features of a groupware and takes care of OS updates, etc. automatically or via the administration UI. Zimbra has all the features, but is lacking the automatic Update / preconfigured virtual appliance.

Has anyone a tip for comparable alternatives?

Odd that they don't have a decent appliance, especially as VMware bought Zimbra... –  Andrew Jul 24 '10 at 4:33
I thought so too after reading the news annoucement :) –  Gabor Mueller Jul 24 '10 at 11:58

Zimbra open source edition isn't very well packaged for popular linux distros.

Have you considered managed hosted zimbra from a cloud vendor?

There's a lot to be said for paying a few bucks per user per month to save yourself many late nights, headaches etc.

It's more of a information security issue when using a hosted solution. If the appliance costs money per user, this would be no issue. –  Gabor Mueller Jul 24 '10 at 11:58
Are you sure you'd have an information security issue using hosted groupware? Most organisations (that want to use opensource groupware virtual appliances) really have more important things to worry about. Remember - email is and never was secure. –  Rich Jul 28 '10 at 13:44

The Zimbra Appliance is now available
