I currently have "Symantec Backup Exec Agent 2010 for linux" running on CentOS 5.3. When SElinux is enabled the backup jobs are failing with an access denied error. However if SELinux is set to permissive mode, the backup is working fine. I have checked the SELinux logs and searched the internet and I can not find any fix to this problem.

It seems that backup exec is using the "beoper" group which currently has only root under it. I did not see a "beoper" user. Short of giving that group access to the entire filesystem, I am not sure how to force SELinux to allow access to backup exec.

Thanks for any help on this!

I presume turning off selinux isn't an option? – GruffTech Aug 19 '10 at 15:18
Well I could, but I have always been told that its best to try and work around SELinux....Is that wrong? – Metropolis Aug 20 '10 at 13:02
