My asp.net application does not have the permission to write to windows event log. It is running under Network Service account. Is there any tool/management console rather than hack in the registry to guaranty the permission? Thanks!

Btw. I'm using Windows Server 2003.

You can use either Domain Group Policy, Local Policy or edit the registry directly. If you are using an Active Directory domain I would recommend using Domain policy.

This KB details your options.

Thanks Scott, I read the KB article and tried to use group policy, but there is no event log policy in Windows Setting/Security Settings/Local Policies/Security Options/. Do you know why? Thanks! –  Roy Aug 25 '10 at 3:12

@Roy There is not an Event Log option by default. Did you edit the file Sceregvl.inf as described in the KB section "Use Group Policy to Set Your Application and System Log Security for a Domain, Site, or Organizational Unit in Active Directory"? Those edits, and re-registering the dll, will enable these options. –  jscott Aug 25 '10 at 8:42
