Open Source Exchange Contacts Alternative

Question

Are there any Open Source alternatives for Microsoft Exchange's contacts functionality? I mean specifically the "local" contacts, so the ones you manage personally, and not the global user list.

For comparison, for mail you can use IMAP, for calendar calDav or remote iCal (Google Calendar). Is there a comparable standard or option for contact information?

Have a look at the vCard format. There are a number of products and add-ons, both open and closed source, that support it.
