“Site does not exist within the LDAP database” Error

Question

I've set up a small website using Joomla 1.5. Everything is running fine, except that a small percentage of visitors to the site get a blank screen with the error message "site does not exist within the LDAP database."

Things I know:

1. My server does not use LDAP (as far as I know).
2. All the visitors who are encountering the error are visiting from within very large organizations.
3. The error message seems independent of browser, as Firefox and IE7 users have both encountered it.
4. The error is persistent for a particular visitor, but a couple of them said that they were "able to access the site once, but on subsequent visits the site displays the error message instead."

I assume that there is something wrong with how my site is handling visitors from these large organizations.

Any Joomla users/LDAP admins/website gurus have any idea what is going on and how I can fix it? Been looking for an answer for a few days now and have found nothing. Thanks in advance.

All the visitors who are encountering the error are visiting from within very large organizations.

My best guess is it is caused by the proxy server they are using.

To be able to eliminate your end of things, do you have any logs from the time they visited showing errors? or access at all?

Thanks for the reply, and sorry for the very late response.

I thought the problem had gone away, but apparently it's still there. I'm working with someone from within one of the organizations to see if we can solve the problem. I don't have any logs from visits yet, but we may go that route if need be. I'll try to post the final resolution when I know what it is.
