My brother-in-law needs an ePos/stock control system for his small games shop based in the UK. At present they have next to no computer hardware on-site so the whole system will likely need to be purchased new.
The system would have to deal with a fairly substantial range of items but would only require one ePos terminal, which would be unlikely to see frantic use at any point.
I have basic linux and windows server administration skills and would be the chief maintainer of the system (I work cheap for family, you see).
The system needs to be reliable, obviously, and as cheap as possible. Because I and other IT professional friends-of-the-business will be the chief maintainers, labour costs will be less of a consideration than normal.
Any ideas, anyone? Ask away if I've missed anything out you'd like to know.
I haven't the rep to create the "ePos" tag, sadly, so I'll do my best to file the question appropriately.
