I have a server running Windows Server 2003 Standard on ESX setup to be cloned each night at 2:30am. Every night at 2:53am this server briefly loses the network connection causes application clients that connect to it to lose their connection.

I confirmed that the problem is due to the cloning by moving the backup to 3am which move the disconnect to 3:23am.

Has anybody seen this before? Is there anything I can do to prevent this from happen without having to cease cloning the machine?

Thanks in advance.

Why are you cloning it? For backup purposes? If so, why not clone it once and then back it up using more conventional means? – joeqwerty Oct 28 '10 at 12:20
I clone all of my systems on a daily basis for backup purposes. If at any point a system needs to be recovered this makes it much quicker to restore. – Luniz Oct 28 '10 at 12:26
Didn't fancy VCB or VDR? – Simon Catlin Oct 28 '10 at 18:41
I have the systems clone themselves nightly using scheduled tasks and then a script ftps them to my storage server and deletes them from the VM inventory. It works well, this is the only problem I've had. – Luniz Oct 28 '10 at 19:40
