Okay, this is more of a what techniques can / should be used to investigate why a couple of servers are becoming non-responsive to ping tests at random intervals for roughly 3 minutes (give or take).

The servers are a mixture of physical and virtual as well as linux and windows.

When the virtual server becomes non-responsive (vmware infrastructure) the other vm's on the host seem to be working fine.

Again, any tips in trying to figure out why this would be occurring would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Matt.

3 minutes sounds like an ARP cache timeout. Are ARP requests being answered? – Rob Olmos Nov 5 '10 at 2:35
That's possible. Is there a good way to test that? The monitoring server is on a different subnet to the servers which are complaining. This is one thing in common amongst the servers. – Matt Delves Nov 5 '10 at 3:26
