ive ran into trouble mounting USBs within VirtualBox Oracle Ed.

ive installed CentOS-5.5, installed Guest Editions and turned on 'Enable USB Controller' in the VB settings..... however I still cannot access any USB devices.. they appear faded in the 'Devices > USB Devices' menu.

I need this feature for kickstart testing.. please help

Have you tried enabling it from the VirtualBox menu? When you mount it on the host operating system, you have to explicitly mount the device in the guest operating system. You can do this by going to the bottom right and clicking on the little USB icon, and selecting the device in question.

You need to do this because only one operating system is allowed to mount the device at one time. If you can see the device mounted and accessible on your host, this is most likely your issue.

thanks for your response andrew. when I go to the USB icon on the bottom right.. hovering over it shows 'No USB Devices Attached' and when I go to select, all the plugged in USBs are faded out and inaccessible. this output is the same with the USB devices mounted or not on the host system – JB87 Nov 16 '10 at 14:07
