In our organization we have a Microsoft Sharepoint 2007 installed and configured on a Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition (32 bit).
The database had been installed and configured on a Sql Server 2000 (Windows 2000 Server 32 bit).
Now we are in the process to move all the databases from the Sql Server 2000 to a new Windows 2008 Server R2 Enterprise (64bit). The new server has been already installed and doesn't have the same name of the Sql Server 2000.
We would like to upgrade all the Sharepoint 2007 database to the RDBMS so that we can dismiss the old, slow Sql server 2000.
Has anyone tried to do something similar?

You'll need to stop your Sharepoint 2007 farm before migrating your SQL 2000 databases to your SQL 2008 database server (I might be making an assumption about a new database server). You should be able to detach your SQL 2000 databases, copy the mdf and ldf to the new database server and then attach them. They should upgrade in place as they come on line. – jl. Yes, but how can I update Sharepoint so that it knows where is the new database? – LeftyX Nov 16 '10 at 15:38
technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc512725(office.12).aspx starting at number 10. You'll have to go to the admin console and add the new database server to the farm. – jl. Nov 16 '10 at 16:33
@jl, I read that document but I've found lot of people complaining cause those steps didn't work. Did you try it? – LeftyX Nov 16 '10 at 21:28
