I want to read SMS from a cell phone and send it as email to other people. I've looked around for various solutions but none of them seem to work.

In my case, all I want is SMS text on PC which could be cut/paste in another application.

What are the free applications that could be used?

Edit This should work with all the common phones like Nokia/LG/Motorola/Blackberry.

Edit Is there a way to automate forwarding SMS to email?

Thanks

Most providers implement SMS messages as e-mails in the first place. Most cell phones can send a "text" to me@example.com and it will come through as "from: 5551234@phone-provider.net" (or something similar). Similarly sending an e-mail back to that same address comes through as a Text message. This functionality will vary by provider! YMMV! – Chris S Nov 16 '10 at 18:23
This is not true in my case. My service provider stopped this service. – user59414 Nov 17 '10 at 3:33
@Chris - a small addendum is that that's mostly only true in North America – Mark Henderson Nov 17 '10 at 3:50
@Farseeker, thanks for pointing that out, I get a bit cultural centric at times. – Chris S Nov 17 '10 at 13:34

Questions on Server Fault are expected to generally relate to servers, networking, or desktop infrastructure, within the scope defined in the faq.

http://wammu.eu/ (which is both free and Free) has a Windows build which might be worth you trying. It did not work fully with my phone, but seems to support many with varying degrees of success so yours could be one of the ones that it works fully with.

I tried Wammu and Gammu. Both complained about some missing config file. Not sure if I had to use CMake? – user59414 Nov 17 '10 at 3:35
