Is there anyone that has experience with GreyHole. Would you suggest It to handle the sotrage of a cheap soho server built on spare parts? It has to be a file and a print server with remote admin in a win XP/7 only network.

I would, but maybe i don't count...

Why do you think you need Greyhole? What is your storage need?

How familiar are you with Linux? (Greyhole is Linux-only.)

Maybe Amahi, which integrates Greyhole, would be a possible avenue for you.

Not sure how well it handles printers (never used printers in Linux myself), but I'm pretty sure it does support remote printing through Samba, and I'd guess many users of the Amahi forums could chime in on that. Or maybe if you just google your printer(s) model(s) with 'samba', you'd find other people with problems and/or success stories about how well they work in samba.

Greyhole looks good and I am running it via Amahi. It is fairly new code however and with file systems this is a bit risky. If the data is something you can afford to lose I wouldn't think twice about it. If you do good backups of the important data, same recommendation.

(BTW, Amahi is an awesome product)
