I have an application on Facebook. I have received many bug reports of the pages not displaying correctly and therfor unplayable. It is because these users have the IE compatibility mode on for Facebook, and it stayed on for instance IE6. So my application is showing to these IE8 users as IE6.

I have been googling to find a solution to either disable compatibility mode or at least make it always be IE8... I have come across both server solutions and script solutions.

Im in the road between grabbing a gun and pulling the trigger on the Microsoft developers or solving this. Who can give me some pointers here?

A quick Google shows that IE respects an http header called X-UA-Compatible, and Microsoft has instructions for implementing this for IIS and for Apache. I assume you found this already, since you said you looked -- what problem are you having with this solution?

I'm no expert in IE, but it's crazy if this behavior really is "sticky" between sites and ridiculous if every site is expected to tell IE not to be act as IE6. So it's possible that something else is going on.

No it obviously an annoying and rediculas issue. Basically, they click on the compatibility mode on facebook.com and everything inside it, including all the games/applications get stuck in that mode. – Mathematical Nov 27 '10 at 14:48

Solve this issue by adding a PHP scripts that sorts the headers. Stupid Internet Explorer. To think that they are bringing the functionality of IE6 back shows what they are good for. – Mathematical Nov 27 '10 at 18:21
