Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

My domains expired mid November. Its early January, shouldn't i be able to register it again? There appears to be a redemption period (do i need to pay extra? i think the last host i was with i didnt have to pay extra) which is 30 days + 5 for deletion. Its definitely been more then 35 days and i still can register it. Whats going on?

umm i don't quite get your question. Do you want to register your domain or not? –  Zypher Jan 4 '11 at 19:04

Why not call the people who you previously registered the domains with and ask them - they're sure to know what's going on. –  Iain Jan 4 '11 at 19:05

Squatters probably have it. They snap up expired domains literally the second they are available (there's even services so you can contend with them and snap up other people's expiring domains). If you're out of the redemption period you can basically kiss it goodbye. –  Chris S Jan 4 '11 at 22:05

Contact your registrar directly. Only they will be able to tell you the exact status of your domain names.
