I need a recommendation for web-based software that:

  • Will be hosted internally to provide access to important files.
  • Allows our IT guys to upload a file and enter a description.
  • Allows visitors to the page will to see a table with a list of all files along with their descriptions.
  • Allows downloading of the files.

The table with the filename and description is 95% of my use-case while the ability to add files via http upload is the 5% spurring me to make this post since it is so time consuming to maintain a webpage manually.

We're talking about about 200 - 300 files at any one time (drivers, company-approved software packages, manuals, etc) so most of the users will load the webpage and ctrl+f to find key words in the description.

Uploading and management of files will be IT. But it is our distribution point for misc files to the rest of the company so downloading the files will be people across the organization. – needadvice Feb 21 '11 at 17:17
