Can anyone suggest an alternative to the Windows Remote Desktop Client for Windows 2000 Professional that will allow for a screen resolution larger than the fixed 1600 x 1200? I am trying to get to 1920x1080. The target server is Windows Server 2003. Thanks!

We have lots of PC's running win 2000 that are used for no other reason than to remote into the server to do work. Only problem now is that some users have bigger monitors than can do 1920x1080 on their desktop and would like to have the same resolution on the remote session. If you want to send over some cash I'll upgrade them all! – NinjaBomb Mar 16 '11 at 23:51
If the only do RDP and nothing else, I would suggest you consider setting them up with a Linux OS an freerdp/rdesktop – Zoredache Mar 17 '11 at 0:06
I tried that, but our ERP software suffers from some sort of weird slow screen refresh if the rdp client isn't on a windows os. I've tried HP thin clients and Ubuntu with different clients and had teh same results. I don't remember trying rdesktopso I might give that a go. – NinjaBomb Mar 17 '11 at 3:09

I've not tried it under Windows 2000, but have you looked at Terminals? http://terminals.codeplex.com/

To quote from their documentation: "Since Terminals 1.9, RDP connections require RDP Client 6 or higher to work correctly." So it's a no go on Windows 2000, unless someone knows something I don't. – NinjaBomb Mar 16 '11 at 20:09
Looks like every other third party manager I've found has similar requirements. Only other option I can think of is to use a VNC variant, which I guess is viable if you're only talking about one destination server. – fireburns Mar 16 '11 at 20:59
