Server Fault is a question and answer site for system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I am searching for a solution to monitor access and activities on my web server. There are only a handful of people who are allowed to access my file server via https or ftp/sftp and I would like to know:

Who is on?
Which files do they upload? Which files do they download?

I am not interested in speed or other technical information. I really do search for an easy tool or method?

I only want to see which person is on the server (only registered users know the hostname of my file server) - best would be something like a "Skype-screen". A screen window which gives me instant information if someone logs on or of....

I think the server will recognise this event and the only thing I want is that it is shown on my screen.

Any Ideas?

Thanks Lutz

From the FAQ, this site is not appropriate for questions about "Running servers at home for personal use". –  mfinni Mar 25 '11 at 9:43
is this your answer? WOW!Thanks.... –  Lutz Mar 29 '11 at 6:50
yes, that is my answer. I voted to move this question to SuperUser, which is the appropriate venue for questions like this. If you read the FAQ and don't like the rules, you don't have to participate. –  mfinni Mar 29 '11 at 12:53
