I am looking for a free software that can:

  1. Compare two MS Sql Server databases (Both schema & data)
  2. Also provide a method to synchronize the databases.

This question came from our site for computer enthusiasts and power users.

How do you mean by "synchronize" ? – Sathya Oct 4 '10 at 14:01
It should be able to transfer diff data between the databases compared. – goths Oct 4 '10 at 14:40
Not free, but if you using Visual Studio 2008 or 2010 the Database Projects which is part of Premium and higher does this for you. – BinaryMisfit Oct 4 '10 at 15:19

Red Gate SQL Compare has a 14 day free trial and it's pretty good.

OpenDBDiff is an open source project up on codeplex that purports to do this. It seems pretty stable, but I have not tried it.

Atlantis Schema Inspector was recently made free, and does this task. Also, the source code to the sync API was recently open sourced if you are interested in writing a custom solution from PowerShell or C#.

I have not used this product directly (I am using the MySQL variant all the time) - but Toad for SQL Server may fit your bill.

Altough I think it is not free for SQL Server.
