Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

Previously posted here, but with no real help and seeming like a server issue, I'm posting here.

I'm running WordPress 3.1.2 (attempted using WordPress 3.2beta1 with the same results) on an Apche server with the latest PHP installed.

After installing a new plugin, I activate said plugin and am prompted with an error starting with Warning: require_once Actual error can be seen here: http://chip-smith.com/

It doesn't matter what plugin is installed. I have verified that the "missing file" is where it should be.

It's becoming a real nuisance to have to go into every plugin and hard code the directory to each plugin file. I have tried reinstalling all the WP core files to no avail.

This happens on any site on this server. I suspect it's something within Apache but not sure. I have attempted a fix provided on the other site of commenting out include_path='.:/usr/local/lib/php' to n avail.

if the site resolves, simply try going to a link or refreshing the page. it seems that after a certain amount of time, the site fixes it self, but will soon fail after more than one page request. –  NW Tech May 19 '11 at 21:49
@Chip I noticed on the link a Permission Denied error Permission denied in x®‚ on line 36 Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required 'core/functions.php' What is the file ownership user:group set at? Also the weird characters in the error message. Type the command $ locale -a see if en_US.utf8 is in the output –  Chris_O May 20 '11 at 11:04
@Chris_O thanks for the reply! for the sake of permissions, everything for the above mentioned domain has 777 permissions. When typing locale -a i get the output of C en_US.utf8 POSIX –  NW Tech May 20 '11 at 18:44
if it's any help, the error seen on the site is slightly different from the error in the log. In the log I see PHP Fatal error: require_once(): Failed opening required 'core/functions.php' (include_path='.:/usr/local/lib/php') in H\xb7\x82\x02 on line 36 –  NW Tech May 20 '11 at 18:47
Who owns the files? BTW what distro is this? –  Chris_O May 21 '11 at 23:44
