Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have a linux based server - RHEL with two NICs using IP addresses from the same subnet as the following:

  • eth0 ==> 192.168.1.169
  • eth1 ==> 192.168.1.170
  • GW ====> 192.168.1.163

this is causing an ARP issue plus I need to have each interface answering its own request.

appreciate your help.

regards,

You didn't actually ask a question here. I don't see how this can cause an ARP issue, its fine for one MAC address to answer multiple IP addresses. – SpacemanSpiff May 30 '11 at 13:48
The issue here is each NIC is doing different job. for example, eth1 receives a mysql query it should be answered through the same interface. I dont want answers to be always from MAC0 – Moh May 30 '11 at 14:12
you'll probably have to ask a real question and give some more details for example what services you'd like to be running on the different interfaces. In my opinion there is not one single simple answer to be given here but multiple different ones, depending on the software in use. – Marcel G May 30 '11 at 14:19
it is simple that i want all http traffic to be answered from eth0 and mysql from eth1. if eth1 is disconnected for any reason, it should be direct all answers now to eth0 – Moh May 30 '11 at 14:30
or to make very simple. if i send ICMP request to IP0, eth0 should answer and if i send ICMP request to IP1, eth1 should answer. – Moh May 30 '11 at 14:38
