Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I'm having an issue whereas my mail server is getting clogged with emails supposedly because qmail is trying to send too many messages at once. The emails are not spam. They are notifications sent out individually at unique times by my system to let users know they have no pm's, new comments on their blogs or password resets. Much like how a forum would work.

Each day when I look at the mail queue it keeps piling up and although some emails are being sent, the rate at which they are sending is causing me to have a customer service nightmare.

I have search for help on this matter, but alas have come up empty. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Is your problem that you have more mail messages in the queue than you want to have? Or is it that the mail isn't being delivered quickly enough? –  JdeBP Jun 2 '11 at 14:25

What is your qmail queue's concurrencyremote setting? As its name suggests, this setting controls the maximum number of emails qmail will attempt to send out at the same time. The default is 20; you may want to raise this to 100 or more, depending on the workload. Experiment.
