I have two computers at home from which I work, a desktop and a laptop(both using static addresses of nnn.nnn.nnn.122 & nnn.nnn.nnn.15. Both are behind the home router/firewall. I currently have port 500 forwarded to the desktop (.122). Sonicwall is 100% functional on the desktop. I can also change the router to forward port 500 to the laptop. which works..

The catch is I'd like to be able to change the client port on the laptop, then forward that port to the laptop. This way I won't have to re-configure the router every time I want to either work on the back porch by the pool, or go sit in my home office and work from there on the desktop..

Any solutions? Thanks

Why do you need to forward the port at all? I have the same client on my work laptop to connect to our office over VPN, and I've never had to configure a port-forward to connect. In fact, it would be useless if I had to, as I wouldn't be able to use it in any locations I don't have access to the firewall (i.e. Public Wi-Fi at a cafe). – Evan M. Jun 15 '11 at 16:11
I agree. Is there a specific reason you have to have the forward set up? I use the GVC at home without having to forward the port to my PC. Without the port forwarding in place, you should be able to use either computer without having to reconfigure the router. – Safado Jun 15 '11 at 17:20
Then I must be missing the bus on this one, but in my initial config of the desktop, it wouldn't work until I forwarded the port. It would hang indefinitely on the "Connecting" step. AS soon as I forwarded port 500, the connection came up very quickly.. Maybe there's something in the connection profile supplied to me by my employer? Thanks for asking!! – Mike D Jun 15 '11 at 20:26
Where did you get the information about forwarding port 500? Was it something that the IT guys at your employer told you to do, a troubleshooting guide from Sonicwall, or just something you read randomly on the internet? – Evan M. Jun 16 '11 at 14:07
