I have a strange issue. The portmap service is working fine for some period. Then I am not able to see the portmap service in the processes list.

I see many such entries in the system log:

Jun 21 04:38:22 ft03 portmap[26709]: cannot bind udp: Address already in use
Jun 21 04:39:41 ft03 portmap[27615]: cannot bind udp: Address already in use
Jun 21 04:41:10 ft03 portmap[29124]: cannot bind udp: Address already in use

Then I am trying to restart portmap and sometimes see the following output:

Cannot register service: RPC: Unable to receive; errno = Connection refused
not registered: 100000 2 tcp 111 portmapper
Cannot register service: RPC: Unable to receive; errno = Connection refused
not registered: 100000 2 udp 111 portmapper
Cannot register service: RPC: Unable to receive; errno = Connection refused
not registered: 100021 1 udp 44325 nlockmgr
Cannot register service: RPC: Unable to receive; errno = Connection refused
not registered: 100021 3 udp 44325 nlockmgr

portmap is restarted fine from the 2nd attempt.

Configuration: CentOS/Apache/MySQL/NFSv3

Thank you.

Have you installed rpcbind (a portmapper replacement) at the same time? –  Teddy Jun 21 '11 at 11:23

No, there is no such program on the server. –  Andrew Jun 21 '11 at 11:28
