Guest OS: Ubuntu 11.04 Host OS: Windows 7

I have set up the bridge adapter to a Ethernet port inside VirtualBox

I have set up the virtual server / port forwarding on the Router

194.168.0.5:80 works on both guest OS and host OS

However when I use my WAN/Internet IP address it will not work (wont forward/load)

Searched for answers and cant find any. Some webpages I found say to put adapter to NAT which then the guest OS IP address goes to the class A type (10.x.x.x) and won't even be accessible by the host OS

Thanks in advance

If you have setup port forwarding properly, then port WAN IP:80 should forward you to port 80 on your local network to that 192 address.

With my ISP, you need a business plan in order to receive traffic on port 80. So in that situation, without them allowing traffic on that port, you will not be able to do that.

I would try to forward a different port, maybe 8080 to port 80 on the VirtuaBox Machine, and then try to access WAN IP:8080. If that works then its most likely a restriction.

Either that or you could just call your ISP and ask.

it forwards port 80 to my host OS without a problem, but doesn't work for my guest OS (under virtualbox) – Kristian Lewis Jones Jul 8 '11 at 12:13

It's probably your routing or firewall equipment not accepting a "loop-back" traffic situation where traffic starts in your internal network, crosses over to the WAN side and then back into your LAN. A good number of SOHO NAT routers lack this functionality.
