Our company is based in Israel, with main branches in china and the US.
We work exclusively with Fortinet hardware, and we are using their built-in IPSec VPN capabilities to connect the remote sites.
We're currently experiencing horrible upload and download speeds with the US branch on our dedicated 4/4 Mbit/s SDH line.
download and upload won't ever go over 20 kilobyte/s.
when downloading or performing a regular speed test (speedtest.net is what we've used) the rates live up to the advertised bandwidth (give or take a 0.5 mbits at max).
we have about 20 terminal users (about 7 working simultaneously) connecting to our windows 2008 server over the VPN and the experience is just dreadful. I'm surprised at how they're able to get any work done.
other than that, the tunnel is stable albeit the latency could be a pain, but that's expected. no errors from the logs, at least from what i was able to gather.
i've tried a couple of test, including FTP file transfers over the VPN tunnel and iperf to test average transfer speeds, and while the peaks were reaching 30 kbits\s the average score was about 15-20.
Please, if any of you ever faced a similar issue, i'd love to hear some comments.
