I have an issue with a new server setup that I've been stuck on for a while, and I'm at the point I really need to ask for help!

First off, I will apologize in advance if this has already been covered somewhere. I have looked and looked but not found anything similar enough. If I've missed something please direct me - I will be very grateful.

My situation is this. I am running two Mac Pro Servers at two sites, each running 10.6.8. At either site there are 2 or 3 Windows-based boxes that all have either professional versions of XP, Vista or 7.

I am sometimes able to Map network drive to the server but it is very, very slow. Other times it does not connect at all.

When the drives are connected, the performance is sometimes terrible, but sometimes quick. I've tried to pay attention to other traffic on the server but I have not seen any measurable correlation.

Additionally, when the Windows-based computer is rebooted, the drives are all disconnected (the red X appears on them) and they can not be reconnected.

And finally, I have not completely tested this result but the last time I tried it, a Windows 7 machine connected to the network locked up on start up. I was only able to start the Windows 7 machine by turning off SMB in the server admin.

Mac OS X clients are having absolutely no difficulty.

I'm seeing authentication errors a lot but I'm fairly sure I have all the logins in order.

Here's an example

[2011/07/19 17:21:09, 2, pid=47561] /SourceCache/samba/samba-235.7/samba/source/auth/auth.c:check_ntlm_password(319) check_ntlm_password: Authentication for user [] -> [] FAILED with error NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER

Also reading through the logs it seems as though Macs are trying to authenticate to it too, when they shouldn't. Admittedly my understanding of Windows networking is a little less than perfect but what's happening here is just beyond me.

I'd greatly appreciate any assistance offered :)

Lucas
