Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have an app that was correctly consuming sharepoint search data via the search webservice ( /_vti_bin/search.asmx?WSDL ). There was an issue with the search results that required me to do a full re-index the data in sharepoint. At first, I had some issues doing the re-index and the web service would respond with:

<ResponsePacket xmlns="urn:Microsoft.Search.Response"><Response domain=""><Status>ERROR_NO_RESULTS_FOUND</Status><DebugErrorMessage /></Response></ResponsePacket>

This seems all well and good and makes sense. However, once the re-index worked (I am able to search correctly inside sharepoint itself), the webservice now returns:

<ResponsePacket xmlns="urn:Microsoft.Search.Response"><Response domain=""><Status>ERROR_SERVER</Status><DebugErrorMessage>Microsoft.SharePoint.SPException</DebugErrorMessage></Response></ResponsePacket>

I can't seem to find any meaningful errors in the windows event logs that are related to this matter. Any ideas?
