Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I've got a couple of maintenance plans that back up my databases. In the related sql agent jobs, there are multiple steps - run the maintenance plan, send success/failure email based on the outcome of the maintenance plan.

All of a sudden (Which is the best way I can describe it) the success/failure emails stopped coming out, so I logged onto the server to check out whether the jobs had been working or not and when I looked at the job, there was only 1 step in it - the run maintenance plan one. The other 2, email related steps, were no longer there.

I've (hopefully) attached 2 screenshots of jobs showing what I'm talking about (note, the 2 jobs in the pics are different but I needed some relevant examples) - the first one has the email steps, the second one is the one they've disappeared from.

Example of Job with email steps still there

Example of job with email steps missing

Has anyone ever seen this/heard of this before?? Thanks, Rich.

Based on Job title it is SmartAgent generated jobs and are not generated by native Maintenance Plan wizard. You have to check SmartAgent for details (the changes may occur when you edit its settings). –  LazyOne Jul 27 '11 at 10:36

we are experiencing this too in SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise edition. Someone suggested maybe the owner changed, but we have not been successful in tracking this. Did you find an answer? –  user98908 Oct 27 '11 at 19:32
