We are using Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 on a Windows 2003 server with IIS 6.0. We made some changes to our Alternate Access Mappings a few months ago and ever since then if we try to start the Windows SharePoint Services Search service it will cause the server to hang and we have to power cycle the server to get it back up. My guess is that we accidentally removed the mapping used by the search indexer so it just hangs, but I don't know how to verify it.

Does anyone have any ideas on what might be causing this? Is there a way to see how the indexer was configured so I can manually add the access mapping back to the configuration?
