We are running Redhat EL 5 update 3 with Powerpath 5.3sp1. We did a FLARE upgrade on clariion and during SP upgrade, one of the emcpower devices which is mounted as ext3(using LVM) mounted as read-only.

I already opened support cases with EMC support and Dell support(They are our Redhat support), EMC says powerpath worked fine and no issues on SAN config. EMC support suggests that issue with journalling on ext3.

Dell support can't find anything but refuse to escalate to Redhat support. They just keep telling me to run e2fsck without providing any root cause analysis.

Just wanted to see if any of you have experienced similar issues and have any ideas. Thanks.

What are the mount options on the ext3? – pfo Aug 11 '11 at 15:45

With providing any log or configuration information all you can expect are WAGs. My WAG is that your multipathing isn't set up properly. – Mark Wagner Aug 11 '11 at 16:45
All you'll get from support is requests to upgrade to current RHEL5 point release and current PP. Considering you're running 5.3 both, those requests won't be completely without merit. – Max Alginin Aug 12 '11 at 2:40
