Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I am running a VPS with a number of clients on it. To support their email requirements, MailEnable is installed on it where each of the clients email addresses are set up.

I have intermediate knowledge of MailEnable.

I am having some issues with it that I hope I can get help with.

I am getting this error message when sending an email:

the socket connection to the remote host failed. the host was either not contactable or it rejected your connection

The second issue has only begun recently where I am getting undelievered emails to my email address to emails I did not send. Example:

Subject: Message Delivery Failure Message:

MailEnable: Message delivery has been delayed.

Message is waiting at home.com for delivery to XX.XX.XX.XXX.

The message will be retried for another 8 hours.

Reason: Mail Server for XXXX.com could not be contacted at this time. MailEnable will keep trying to deliver this message and will notify you of any progress.

Could anyone help me out as to why the above maybe occurring and possibly point me in the correct direction?

Check your firewall -- it may prohibit outgoing connections to SMTP port. –  LazyOne Aug 13 '11 at 9:53
