I'm trying to set up a server for some software that requires MySQL 4. The server I'm trying it in runs ubuntu 10.4 server with a current copy of MySQL 5.1.
While the people who made the software recommend MySQL 4.0.20. I decided to go with 4.1.21 since it turned out to be way easier to install. I found old copies of MySQL at http://work.hackerschool.org/DOWNLOAD/APM/mysql/mysql-4.1.21.tar.gz.
I get it to install and it seems to run fine. I disabled the Ubuntu firewall and AppArmor while debugging and the daemon gives no errors while running.
My problem is that no socket file is created and nothing listens on port 3308 (where I decided to put it).
The relevant part of my config file looks like this:
[client] port = 3308 socket = /var/run/mysqld/mysqld_4.sock [mysqld_safe] socket = /var/run/mysqld/mysqld_4.sock nice = 0 [mysqld] user = mysql socket = /var/run/mysqld/mysqld_4.sock port = 3308 basedir = /usr/share/mysql-4 datadir = /var/lib/mysql-4 tmpdir = /tmp skip-external-locking # bind-address = 127.0.0.1
Has anyone attempted to do this? Am I doing something stupid?
my config file also has the following:
general_log_file = /var/log/mysql/mysql_4.log general_log = 1 log_error = /var/log/mysql/mysql_4_error.log
but all logs are - sadly - empty.
