Server Fault is a question and answer site for professional system and network administrators. It's 100% free, no registration required.

On our system(which is based on Rackspace cloud and uses integrated Akamai CDN) we want to cap usage of our cloud files and CDN and bill users accordingly.

If I look at API set exposed by Rackspace or Akamai I dont find anything which can help me, but what I am trying to achieve here seems to be pretty common feature in user generated content websites.

Can someone help me identify appropriate APIs or an alternate solution which can help us meter CDN usage per container.

It seems like this sort of question would be better if asked directly of Rackspace support staff. Have you tried that already? –  polynomial Aug 28 '11 at 15:49

I haven't been able to find an API method that would return the bandwidth used by a container, so I doubt there's any way to measure it through the API. Unless Rackspace provides this information in their control panel, there is no way to automate it until they release an API method to do so.

Do you happen to know if AS3 have this support? –  JewelThief Aug 28 '11 at 15:16
CDN access logs can be enabled on a per-container basis and will output apache-style logs in the .CDN_ACCESS_LOGS container. These may not be delivered for several hours after the request (Akamai must first deliver them to Rackspace, then Rackspace must process the raw logs), so they may not be sufficient for your purposes. Also, there's the problem of tracking which users made which requests in the logs--all Akamai sees/captures is the source IP of the request. –  MonkeeSage Aug 30 '11 at 20:44
