i created a SBS 2008 native backup on an external hard drive. i can plug the drive into an xp machine, open the resulting drive letter, and see the drive contents (I had to take ownership and change ACLs).
On a windows 7 sp1 machine, the OS gives the drive a drive letter, but when i click on it, it get an "access is denied" message. note that drive access is the problem, i understand how to mount vhd files in the win7 drive mgmt mmc.
the reason i am trying to do this is to mount the backup vhd and extract single backup files from time to time. copying the files via an xp machine is currently my workaround, but its annoying.
is this issue by design (i've always had this issue)? do any sbs pros know what i need to do to be able to access sbs 2008 media on a windows 7 machines?
